A Sacred Journey A Flight for Life

Millions of Monarchs each winter take the treacherous journey from North America and Canada to the same fir trees high up in the Madras mountain range in Mexico.

The local people honour them as the souls of their loved ones returning as they begin arriving on the Day of the Dead. Flying up to 8000 kms with only the sun as their compass and the magnetic pull of the earth’s atmosphere to guide them, they make this sacred journey without guidance from their ancestors in previous years.

Deborah climbed this mountain every day to capture this sacred journey. Moved to tears witnessing the enormous instinctual strength and vulnerability of these magnificent creatures, she saw how their fragility was also ours.
